How To Get Eligibility Letter In Nigeria
After a detailed article written on how to attestate certificates in Nigeria, countless questions started filling my mailbox on how to get an eligibility letter in Nigeria. Although, I have replied more than 90% of people asking for where to get eligibility letter in Nigeria but the number of people asking this question daily made me resolved to putting up the process here for anybody who might be in need of the information for easy access.
To start with, you must know that eligibility letter is different from just document or certificate attestation. If what you want is document attestation for employment or educational purposes especially in the UAE or some other countries check the step by step approach to getting certificate attestation in Nigeria on this link
From my experience, eligibility letter is mostly asked by schools in Malaysia and Cyprus. They ask a student seeking admission in their institutions to provide it as part of the requisites for finalizing the admission process.
So, how do you get an eligibility letter?
Eligibility letter like i said, is usually attached to educational purpose and the highest body handling that in Nigeria is Federal Ministry of Education. You will apply for eligibility letter at the Federal Ministry of Education and this application will come after you must have attested the same certificate you want to use.
Let me break it down. Eligibility letter can only be issued by The Federal Ministry of Education in Abuja - if anybody tells you otherwise, it's a big lie.
Eligibility letter and attestation of certificate goes together, so when you are asked to get an eligibility letter, also make sure you get that same certificate attested by both ministry of education and foreign affairs so you don't have to do it twice.
Where And How Do I Get Eligibility Letter?
From any part of Nigeria, go to Central Business District in Abuja where the Ministry of Education is located. The office that will attend to you is on the 8th floor of the building. Make sure you go with the original of the certificate you want to use in getting eligibility letter and don't forget to make 2 copies along with you.
When you get there, you will buy a form for certificate attestation. Ministry of education will first place their seal on your original certificate, append a signature at the back and also place their seal on the 2 photocopies you submitted with the original. When you are done with the attestation, ask them you want to apply for eligibility letter. You will be guided and once you are through with the application and submitted, you will have to leave and come back after a week or two.
When the eligibility letter is out, proceed to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Ministry of foreign affairs is located directly opposite Ministry of education) and attest the letter together with one out of the two photocopies of your certificate which was done at the Ministry of Education. Once you reach this stage, you are 100% through with the process.
Hint:You will have to purchase a form for attestation at the ministry of education and also make some payment into bank per document for attestation and eligibility letter too (depending on the number of document you want to do).
The place is always flooded with people so i advice you to go very early any day you chose to go.

Does the ministry give the student an eligibility letter, or is it sent to the embassy straight, cos what was given to me was a photocopied document, without a letter head

Ministry of Education does not send Eligibility Letter to embassy on behalf of applicants. Applicant would be the one to come back for it when it is ready. Normally, it takes a week or more before it is ready after application. When you go back to collect the eligibility letter, a copy of the letter without any letter head would be given to you to acknowledge. All you need to do is write your name, phone umber and state that the original is collected by you as at that date. Once you are done, return it and the original Eligibility Letter would be given to you.
