I am writing on this topic because a lot of people have a big problem knowing how to go about this especially those outside Lagos and people living abroad.
Ideally, police character certificate is usually requested abroad for job, marriage, residency purposes or more. It is a way to have it on record that you do not have any black record back home. For some people who are currently working in Dubai or any other part of UAE, they will pretty much understand what a police character certificate means. From experience, I also know that police
character certificate is usually requested in the Europe.
Now, for those who live within Nigeria, police character certificate can be easily gotten from Central Criminal Registry Force C.I.D. at Alagbon, Lagos.
You must know that if you apply for police character certificate from any part of Nigeria, it will still be forwarded to Lagos for due processing before been sent back to you. In a nutshell, if you are applying for police character certificate from another part or city in Nigeria, it will take a longer time before it can be ready.
What To Do
If you stay in Lagos or any other state in Nigeria, just join a bus from any part of Lagos to Obalende and when you get to Obalende, ask for how to get to Central Criminal Registry Force C.I.D., Ikoyi. The place is very close to Obalende and once you get there, go in and tell them you want to apply for police character certificate. The place is always very busy and once a form is given to you, fill it and finger print accordingly.
The police on duty will help you should you need any clarification on how to fill it.
Make sure you go with a recent passport photograph and your International Passport Number. You just make a photocopy of the data page of your International passport while going so you can easily copy whatever details needed on your passport.
Everything will be done, finished and you will collect it that same day if you know your way around.
Normally, you shouldn't spend more thanN5,000 to get it done but when you get there but be pretty sure of spending more than that if someone else is getting it done on your behalf.. If you need any information on how to attest your certificates in Nigeria, kindly check it up here.

Dear CJ, you can send the form to the person and let him or her do the filling and necessary finger prints on the form. After completion, the person will have to send the document back via courier with a passport photograph and a copy of his or her data page (international passport). You can then proceed to Force Headquarters and complete the process for the person. This is the official process laid down for issue or situation like you mentioned. Dose the police character certificate has a expiring date.

Technically,it does. Though, they may not write it on the certificate but once you fail to use your police report within 3months of obtaining it, it becomes invalid and you'll have to get another one.
