  • The issue of document attestation may be new to so many Nigerians living/working abroad but certainly not Nigerians professionals in the UAE. Securing a skilled labour job in the UAE requires proper attestation of your educational certificates especially if you are to work in Abu-Dhabi. Searching or finding job does not require attestation of documents but the moment you become a successful applicant, proper attestation of your results becomes a necessity. Attestation is a legal authentication to prove that your certificates or documents your are presenting are genuinely obtained by you.

As a Nigerian seeking to live and work in the UAE, ensure you follow the due process in attesting your certificates before leaving for the UAE. Before now, it was possible for you to attest all your documents through the Nigerian embassy in the UAE but currently, all documents coming from Nigeria are expected to be authenticated by the necessary ministries and the UAE embassy in Nigeria before coming into the UAE. If you go to the UAE without attesting your documents, you will have to send them back to Nigeria for attestation.

It is very true that a lot of people are working in Dubai, Abu-Dhabi and some other places in the UAE without any certificate attestation but that is because most of them are not employed as skilled employees. Of course, you can't compare the salary package of a skilled labour to an unskilled labour. Even if you are just an O'level certificate holder, my advice is that you get your certificate attested before leaving home in other to fetch yourself a better deal in terms of employment.

Documents you can attest are but not limited to the following:
    • Ordinary level/SSCE: WAEC/NECO/GCE
    • Degree Certificate/ Bsc Certificate
    • National Diploma (ND)
    • Higher National Diploma (HND)
    • MSc
    • Transcripts
    • Reference Letter
    • Marriage Certificate
    • Birth Certificate
    • Court Affidavit
    • Police Character Certificate
    • Professional License
The process of attesting your certificates for use in the UAE starts and ends in Abuja. Your documents will go through the federal ministry of education, the ministry of foreign affairs and the UAE embassy, all in Abuja, to have a complete certificate attestation. A well explanatory article about document attestation for UAE is here, help yourself with all necessary information in other to save excess cost.
